Inside the box

The parts of a plan meal

The three plans share the same building blocks. Bigger plans simply add more of them.

  1. Dal or rajma

    Pulses cooked with tomato, onion and spices. They bring plant protein and fibre to the plate.

  2. Chapati

    Whole-wheat flatbread, made fresh. Big Bite has three, Jumbo Feast has four.

  3. Steamed rice

    Plain rice to go with the dal — a familiar base for most Indian meals.

  4. Sabzi or curry

    Seasonal vegetables, either dry or in a gravy. Jumbo Feast has both.

  5. Salad, soup or chutney

    Something fresh on the side: onion-lime salad, a cup of soup, or green chutney.

Who should check with a professional first

Our meals are ordinary home-style food, but a change in how much and what you eat is still a change. A short talk with a doctor or registered dietitian makes sense if any of these apply to you.

Talk to a professional first if you

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • live with diabetes, a kidney, heart or thyroid condition;
  • take medicine that depends on regular meals;
  • have a food allergy or intolerance;
  • are an older adult or have had a big change in appetite or weight;
  • have a history of disordered eating.

Seek medical help promptly if you notice

  • swelling of lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing after eating;
  • dizziness, fainting or unusual weakness;
  • weight loss you did not intend or cannot explain;
  • stomach pain, vomiting or diarrhoea that does not settle.

A note on food and health

Yomicon prepares everyday meals with a stated calorie range, and the texts on this site are general information about balanced eating and portion awareness. We describe what is in a box, how plans are delivered and what you can choose. Our meals do not diagnose, treat or replace care for diabetes, thyroid conditions, kidney disease, eating disorders or any other condition. Weight, energy and wellbeing depend on many things, and no meal plan can promise a particular result. If you have a health condition, take medication, are pregnant or notice changes that worry you, talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian first.
